Stanislaus County

In 2024, Stanislaus County continues to grapple with the severe impact of fentanyl. The latest data reveals a disturbing trend, with 48 drug overdose deaths recorded from January to early May. Out of these, 33 were attributed to illegal fentanyl. This ongoing crisis has resulted in four to five county residents dying each week from drug-related overdoses. The county experienced a record 213 drug fatalities in 2023, of which 138 were caused by fentanyl, marking a significant 8% increase in fentanyl deaths compared to the previous year. San Joaquin County

San Joaquin County has also seen a sharp increase in fentanyl-related deaths. By 2021, the county reported that the fentanyl overdose death rate had become 20 times higher than in 2018. This dramatic rise in fatalities has significantly impacted young people, with over half of the deaths occurring among individuals aged 14 to 35. In 2021 alone, 48 people died from fentanyl overdoses, underscoring the lethal nature of this synthetic opioid.

Both counties are actively working to combat this crisis through various measures, including increasing public awareness, providing overdose prevention kits, and making naloxone (Narcan) more widely available to reverse overdoses and saves lives.
